The area is now in daily use by both young and old! It’s also exciting to be able to demonstrate that we take both universal design and the environment seriously with the new and unique ground cover.
Safe, high-energy play on wooden deck
The Motor Skills Park offers exploratory play, from simple balance activities to advanced tricks with flips and high speed.
With a shock-absorbing ground cover, it’s safe to challenge your boundaries and creativity.
This is a joint project between Veavågen Church and the local community council, with the goal of creating an area that serves as a gathering point and encourages activity. The Motor Skills Park is part of the development of outdoor spaces around the church, which is located in the center of the village of Veavågen located on Karmøy island on the Norwegian west coast.
Good for the Environmental Footprint
The client wanted the area to be as eco-friendly and universally designed as possible. Rampline’s concept—a Motor Skills Park with ShockDeck™ ground cover—became the solution.
The 120 m² ShockDeck™, a wood-based, shock-absorbing grund cover, is primarily made from locally sourced, eco-friendly timber. Additionally, it provides a stable and comfortable surface, making the facility accessible and inclusive. Hidden beneath the timber are shock-absorbing components that ensure safety standards for impact protection are met.
If this facility were built with a wet pour rubber surface, it would have required 5 tons of rubber granules and nearly 400 liters of adhesive. Instead, these two environmental culprits were replaced by ShockDeck™, which consists of a total of 2.3 tons of sustainable materials—95% of which is locally sourced, eco-friendly timber.
ShockDeck™ is an ideal ground cover for playgrounds as it, in addition to having excellent shock absorbing properties, also is wheelchair-friendly, environmentally friendly, durable, and completely free of microplastics and adhesives.
